Geocache Description:

The Edinburgh Royal Infirmary was established in 1729 and received Royal charter in 1736. The infirmary moved to the site at Lauriston Place in 1879 and was famous for its Medical School. The site was the old George Watson School and George Watson Hospital prior to becoming the Royal Infirmary. This site is no longer the current site of the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

In 2003, the Royal Infirmary moved to the site at Little France which is a purpose built 900 bed hospital and home of the University of Edinburgh Medical School.

The Old Royal Infirmary at Lauriston Place was sold by Lothian Health Board to a developer for a regeneration project which includes apartment accommodation, shopping, leisure, restaurants and hotel developments. This development is still being undertaken but the majority of the old external building of the Royal Infirmary will remain as it is a listed building.

The cache is located near the west wing of the Old Royal Infirmary.
