This cache is a short, offset multi based on information that can be found at the entrance to the Springline Methodist Chuch grounds. There is no need to enter the grounds themselves. Parking is available at the nearby village hall and the final cache is located not far away. You are looking for a plastic tube about an inch in diameter and three inches long, covered in black tape.
Upton Methodist Church was opened in September 1957. The premises include a hall and kitchen.
The Spring Line Methodist Church was formed on 1st January 2010 by combining Blewbury and Upton Methodist Churches. The existing churches are now known as the Blewbury Centre and the Upton Centre.
The first Upton Methodist church was built in 1842, its centenary celebrated during the second world war. The late Gwen Greenough recalled that people were asked to contribute furnishings; she herself gave the fine wooden altar. The souvenir booklet then noted that ‘the (Upton) churches are well ahead of many localities, because there is a common-sense unity’.
At the listed coordinates, you need to collect the following information (there is no need to enter the church grounds as all details can be seen from the gateway at the coordinates given):
The number of window panes on either side of the entrance door = A
The number of windows in each door = B
The number of planting tubs in front of the entrance = C
The number of large trees on the left hand side of the path to the entrance = D
The number of benches placed outside of the church, to the right-hand side of the entrance = E
The cache is located at N51 34.(A-B)B(A-B-C-D) W001 15.(A-D)D((A/2)+C+E).
Due to the building having been closed and put up for sale, some of the features described above are disappearing. Hence we will be archiving this cache later this year. In the meantime, it should be treated as a traditional with the cache coordinates being: N51 34.714 W001 15.717
