Geocache Description:



This is one of a pair of caches hidden in Farrington Woods, the city of Danbury's newest preserve.

A short walk in Farrington Woods will bring you to this easy cache along the shores of Sanford Pond. From the parking lot (coordinates below) follow a white-blazed woods road a short distance and then turn right onto the yellow trail. When the yellow appears to turn left into a deadfall maze continue straight to Sanford Pond. Follow the footpath along the shores of the lake until you approach the coordinates. A short bushwack will bring you to the hide. The round-trip walk is approximately 1/2 mile. To find this cache and her companion, Wallace (GC4R50T), is an easy 2-mile out-and-back hike.The container is a medium-sized lock 'n' lock and should be easy to find.

The hardest part about this cache may be finding the entrance drive. Look for it on the north side of Route 6, opposite Saw Mill River Road. Do not park near any of the structures along the drive. Continue to a blacktopped parking lot on your left, near an information kiosk. (At the time the cache was hidden, there was no information posted at the kiosk.)

This preserve comprises 192 acres of the Isabelle Farrington property which the city of Danbury acquired for $1.65 million in 2010.The entrance road runs along the New York-Connecticut border, and conservationists hope the town of Southeast will one day acquire the 200 acres on the Putnam County side of the line.

What's in a name? Isabelle Farrington must have been a lady of some import; the school of education at Sacred Heart University is named in her honor.
