Le pont de Port-Galland tire son nom du hameau de St-Maurice-de-Gourdans. Il permet de relier les communes de Loyettes et de St-Maurice-de-Gourdans en traversant la rivière d'Ain, marquant ici la frontière entre le Bas-Bugey (Loyettes) et la Côtière (St-Maurice-de-Gourdans). De nombreux affrontements ont eu lieu lors de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, notamment en 1944 au cours de la bataille de Meximieux.
Vous pourrez profiter d'une très belle vue de la rivière en marchant sur le pont, et pourquoi pas même vous y baigner pendant la belle saison (mais attention, la baignade dans l'Ain peut parfois s'avérer dangereuse).
The Port-Galland bridge takes its name from the hamlet of St-Maurice-de-Gourdans. It connects municipalities of Loyettes and St-Maurice-de-Gourdans crossing the River Ain, here marking the border between the "Bas-Bugey" (Lower Bugey, with the town of Loyettes) and the "Côtière" (with St-Maurice-de-Gourdans). Many clashes took place during the Second World War, particularly in 1944 during the Battle of Meximieux.
You can enjoy a beautiful view of the river on the bridge, and why not go swimming during the summer (but beware, swimming in the River Ain can sometimes be dangerous).
