The Santa Barbara County Quadrangle Challenge
The objective of this challenge is to find a cache in each of 56 USGS 7.5 minute topographical map quadrangles that cover Santa Barbara County.
You MAY take credit for finds made prior to the creation of the Santa Barbara County Quadrangle Challenge. All caches found must be located in Santa Barbara County.
To complete this challenge and find the final cache, you must
- Find a Santa Barbara County cache in each quadrangle shown in the attached grid. If the quad does not have any active caches, you may place one or you may take a pass that quad.
- A couple of quad may be closed to geocaching because they are fully on US Military property. Please respect all No Trespassing signs.
- To show that you have completed the Challenges, you may choose one of the following:
- Create a bookmark this Challenge cache and bookmark one cache for each quad. Indicate in the Comments section the name of the quad and the date of the
find.
- Send me a Pocket Query of the bookmark of the caches you’ve found for each quadrangle. If you aren't a Premium Member, send me the bookmark.
- Send me a .gpx of your Santa Barbara County finds.
- Post a list of your finds by quad name
- The find cannot be logged as Found on-line until the physical container is found and the log signed.
- If you would like to use a Google Earth overlay, the .klm overlay with all California 7.5" quads in located here.
- If you have any questions as to what quad a cache is in or would like to like be know how you are progressing, please e-mail me at coakford@yahoo.com.
If you would like a .gpx or .loc file of the quad corners, please let me know. The color map was done in Streets & Trip '06. If you would like that file, it is also available.
The guidelines:
- The posted coordinates are the actual coordinates for the cache. You may visit the cache and log a Note before qualifying, but you must qualify before logging a Find.
- Generally accepted rules, guidelines and conditions for logging a cache find apply. These must be bona fide caches listed on Geocaching.com that you have
personally (physically) found and logged.
- All cache types count as finds with the exception of events (CITO included) and locationless caches.
- For the purposes of this challenge, the coordinates listed on the cache page will determine which quadrangle puzzle and multi caches are located in, and not
the coordinates of the actual physical cache.
- All caches found must be located in Santa Barbara County. For quads along the county boundaries, please pick a cache inside Santa Barbara County.
- The boundary of each quadrangle in the challenge is determined by the coordinates listed on the USGS quadrangle map of the same name.
- If for any reason it becomes impossible to find a cache in a particular quadrangle, that quadrangle will be dropped from the challenge.
