Projekt Apollo bio je projekt Sjedinjenih Američkih Država koji je osmišljen u Nacionalnoj aeronautičkoj i svemirskoj agenciji, a koji je trebao omogućiti ljudima da slete na Mjesec te se sigurno vrate na Zemlju obavivši pri tome razne znanstvene zadatke. Bio je to program koji je uključivao velik broj misija bez posade sa probnim zadacima i 11 misija s ljudskom posadom sa konkretnim zadacima. Od tih 11 misija sa posadom dvije (Apollo 7 i 9) su obavile zadatak provjere svemirskog broda i opreme u orbiti oko Zemlje, Apollo 8 je prvi izvršio let s posadom oko Mjeseca (bez ulaska u orbitu) Apollo 10 je proveo ispitivanje lunarnog modula u orbiti oko Mjeseca, dok je šest misija uspješno sletjelo na Mjesec te vratilo posadu na Zemlju.
