Geocache Description:

The village of Imber lies in the middle of no-where. In the middle of Salisbury Plain. A deserted village which has a story dating back into the mists of time and coming to an abrupt end during World War II. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the abandonment of the village.

We held our first Imbibing Imber Twixmas gathering here in 2012 and were bowled  over by the number of cachers who braved the rain to make the event the success it turned out to be.

When we explored Imber early in 2012 we were surprised at what we found there. An amazing place to visit and quite eerie.

Our plan is to visit the village again on one of the special open days.
What better than to attend a Geocaching Event between Christmas and New Year?
A time when we all want to walk off some of the excesses of Christmas!

In the village itself there is the Anglican Church of St Giles, and the Baptist cemetery, untouched by Military Manoeuvers. Surrounding the church are regularly changing buildings which simulate those to be found in the field of conflict.

The plan is to visit the village in the morning, meeting up at 12:00 hrs in the church to log the event and perhaps take a group photo, eat our picnic lunches, exchange Seasonal Greetings, etc, etc. To celebrate the season and wish everyone a Happy New Year we'll organise some punch. If the weather is poor, we have been given access to the church. The Church should be open so there will be tea and coffee, local cakes available. There is an interesting museum collection within the church, telling the story of some of the former residents of Imber. Bring a camera and binoculars. As long as you do not leave the carriageways you are able to take photos of the tanks etc.

The Trig Point is generally unavailable as it is out of bounds!

Please respect the rules...disobedience may result in you being blown up! Also, there is an archaeological dig still going on there so the area is fenced off.

Please Note: This is a Military Training Area on which live firing and other pyrotechnics may be used. The area is generally open public access. One of the safety rules for public access is:- Do not, (and ensure that children do not) approach, touch or pick up any metal objects lying on the ground. Please obey all bylaws and locally posted information concerning times when the area may be closed. These may be physical barriers, flags or lights.

EVENTS:

TB/GC Swapping and spotting: As is normal for events, there will be time for trackable swapping and spotting, why not drop your TBs in the box for another cacher to pick up and move on?

FTF Draw: all attendees will be invited to enter into a draw for FTF of the event. As well as bragging rights, the winner will also go home with a small prize! Please make sure you enter your ticket into the tin before the draw at 12:30

RAFFLE: donations appreciated. Funds raised to go to Help 4 Heroes. Draw at 13:00

PUNCH: as last year, hot punch will be available

Dogs are allowed into the church but must be kept on a lead once in the churchyard.

Congratulations to CPTracker for FTF.
Prize was an unregistered GAGB 10th Anniversary TB.
