St Thomas More Church

The Catholic Parish of West Malling became an independent parish in 1960 when Fr. Timothy Daly was appointed Parish Priest, and a house, together with 3 acres of land, was purchased in East Malling for £5000. There was, at the time, a small church in Frog Lane and a Mass Centre at Snodland but, in 1964, the Hermitage and attached land was purchased at a cost of £20,000. This is now known as More Park. The church was built in 1972 and the Primary School was completed in 1973 with Derek Johnson as the first Head Teacher. Around this time the house at East Malling was sold but the land was retained and sold some years later. In 1982, the church was consecrated by the Archbishop of Southwark.
