A Nice Hike Up Elk Creek Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

bd's: I took a new container along when I checked on this one today. The entire area (starting with the parking lot) looked completely different than it was when I hid this cache. It if far more difficult to get to this now. I decided not to leave the new container and just archive it. Thanks to everyone who looked for it.

Geocache Description:

This cache will take you on a hike along and through Elk Creek with a 30 caliber ammo can waiting for you at the end.

To find this cache, park at the coordinates given below.  From there you should be able to easily see how to get to the creek.  Walk down the short path, and then begin your hike upstream.  You will need to wear boots or creek shoes, because you will have to cross a couple of times along the way.  Since you have to hike through the creek that will be reflected in the terrain rating.

PLEASE:

  • After you find the cache rehide it at least as good as when you found it.  Elk Creek is a very popular steelhead fishing stream, so muggles will be abundant at certain times of the year.
  • Do not attempt this cache when the water level is up.  It can be very dangerous, and almost impossible to get to the cache.
  • Be careful walking, because the shale creekbed is very slippery.
  • Be respectful of any fishermen in the area.  If there are a lot of fishermen around you probably should try another time.
  • Do not go onto any private property.

I didn't have any trouble getting to the cache site when I placed the cache, but when the salmon run it could be an issue.  Have fun, and be safe!!!
