Mylonite (n. f.) terme initié par C. Lapworth en 1885, du grec mulôn, moulin ; en anglais mylonite :
- Au sens large, toute roche plus ou moins finement broyée. Synonyme : brèche tectonique.
- Au sens strict des pétrographes, roche dynamométamorphique dérivant d'une roche magmatique ou d'une roche sédimentaire broyée au point que les cristaux originels ne peuvent plus être identifiés à l'œil nu ; il faut employer le microscope pour en révéler la structure cataclastique : cristaux émiétés en débris tordus et étirés, englobés dans un ciment (qui peut être de quartz, séricite, chlorite, etc.).
- Phyllonite (n. f.) : Type de mylonite d'aspect schisteux et de teinte sombre ; le terme vient de la contraction de phyllade et de mylonite…
- Pseudotachylite (n. f.) : Type de mylonite exceptionnelle, son grain est à peine visible au microscope, son aspect est celui d'une roche vitreuse et noire. (Voir Pseudotachylite et Tachylite)
- Blastomylonite (n. f.) : terme initié par B. Sander en 1912, du grec blastos, bourgeon, et mylonite ; en anglais blastomylonite : Roche métamorphique qui dérive d'une roche magmatique ou d'une roche sédimentaire mylonitisée, c'est-à-dire broyée à température plus ou moins élevée, et qui montre des cristauxbrisés (clastes et porphyroclastes) moulés par une matrice granoblastique de minéraux syncinématiques ou postcinématiques (blastes).
Ce type de phénomène peut, parfois, être observé en bordure de massifs granitiques. On considère alors que la fin de la cristallisation (représentée par des cristaux non déformés de biotite et feldspath) s'est produite après les déformations et broyages ayant accompagné la mise en place du pluton granitique.
- Mylonitique (adj.) : Qualifie ce qui a l'aspect et la structure d'une mylonite.
- Mylonitisé, Mylonitisée (adj.) : Qualifie une roche subit un dynamométamorphisme, c'est-à-dire, qui a été broyé et métamorphisée.

Accès à la mylonite: depuis le chemin descendre sur l'estran, puis se rendre aux coordonnées, vers l'Est.

Pour ceux qui auront la chance de passer à marée basse, rendez-vous au point de coordonnées: N 47°07.537 W002°13.265, et suivez le filon de mylonite en remontant vers le sentier, jusqu’au point N 47°07.551 W002°13.260.
Munissez-vous d'un mètre ruban, et d'une lame de couteau.

Question 1: Quelle est l’épaisseur du filon sur la photo 1, au niveau du morceau de bois ?
Question 2: Quelle est l’épaisseur du filon sur la photo 2, prise un peu plus bas, au niveau du morceau de bois?
Question 3: Avec votre couteau, pouvez-vous plus facilement extraire des fragments de mylonite que des fragments du micaschiste situé de part et d’autre de la faille ?
Question 4: En observant les micaschistes de part et d’autre du filon de mylonite, à quelle type de faille appartient celle qui est sous vos yeux:

Type C: Faille inverse ?
