This is the first of a mini series along a delightful section of the Seine.
C'est la première d'une mini-série le long d'une jolie section de la Seine.
Prehistoric man sought insular places, in order to protect & defend himself more easily. The swamps and numerous islands which were to be found on the area now known as Bas Samois offered a privileged situation. From Gallic times there have been wooden, then stone bridges crossing the Seine via the islands.
Today, it is an area for pleasant walks and fishing. Django Reinhart lived here from 1951 to 1953. Each year there is an international jazz festival in Django's honour.
L'homme préhistorique a cherché des endroits insulaires, afin de se protéger et de se défendre plus facilement. Les marais et les nombreuses îles qui se trouvaient dans la région, maintenant connue sous le nom Bas Samois, offraient une situation privilégiée. A l'époque gauloise, il y avait eu des ponts en bois, puis en pierres, traversant la Seine via les îles.
Aujourd'hui, c'est une zone de promenades agréables et pour la pêche. Django Reinhart a vécu ici de 1951 à 1953. Chaque année, il y a un festival international de jazz en l'honneur de Django.
