The South Coast Greenway (trail) was conceived of back in the 1990s, or earlier. It is meant to connect some of the various existing parks and preserves with each other so that folks can hike/bike between them. Additionally, this portion is also meant so that school kids and others can walk from the high school and community college to neighboring areas. It was even disccussed that the path would be good for exposing children to the nature areas.
Both TECO and Hawks Point (part of the trail is on their properties) have already agreed to the trail. It is a done deal. It just needs to be built.
This cache is located on the right-of-way of the road. At the moment, you can't easily walk the proposed path. While there is the easement for such and it is not illegal, I would wait for a little more work on the path to be done.

Della Cury, Legislative Aide to Sandra L. Murman updated the status to a fellow geocacher who forwarded me the message. Currently the trail is under design phase and should be completed in a year's time (late summer 2014). Construction (if funded) will begun after that. This is for Phase I only (College Av. to 19th). This is from Richard Sanders, the Manager for the Southcoast Greenways Trail. Contact me if a contact number is desired.
