Description:

Mud Mill Pond is historically known as Medford’s Mill Pond. The water in the pond is from the Culbreth Marsh Ditch and the Tappahanna Ditch (in Delaware) and the Beaver Harrington Ditch (in Maryland). The original dam was built to provide water power to operate Medford’s Mill which is still standing at the western edge of the dam. John B. Medford opened the mill in 1862. It was in operation into the late 1970’s. The mill stone was removed and is now located at the Delaware Agriculture Museum in Dover and is part of the Silver Lake Mill Building.

Named for the muddy brown water, the pond encompasses approximately 60 acres of water and is generally shallow with the maximum depth of about 7 feet near the dam. Because of the pond’s shallow depth it provides a habitat for several species of aquatic vegetation that in turn supports a diverse population of aquatic organisms.

The pond is in both Maryland and Delaware so you need to have the proper fishing license depending on where you are fishing on the pond.
