[LV]Bauskas pils ir Bauskas lepnums, viens no Zemgales lepnumiem! Bauskas pils ir daļa no Zemgales piļu kompleksa. Bauskas pils celta Mūsas un Mēmeles satekas vietā, šaurā, klinšu norobežotā pussalā. Pāri visai pussalai pils priekšā tika izrakts dziļš grāvis, pār kuru veda paceļamais tilts. Pils celtniecībā izmantots vietējais dolomīts, laukakmeņi un ķieģeļi. Kopējais abu pils daļu izmērs ir 124 x 43 metri. Viduslaiku pils mūru biezums sasniedz 3,5 metrus. Viduslaiku pilij kopā ar priekšpili bija pieci torņi. Lielākajā tornī mūsdienās atrodas skatu laukums, tas ir 22 metrus augsts. Otra stāva līmenī šajā tornī atradās dzīvojamā telpa ar zvaigžņu velvi. Viduslaiku pils korpusi ietvēra iekšpagalmu. Hercoga laiku pilī tika ietverti divi viduslaiku pils torņi, starp kuriem uzcēla trīs korpusus, kas veidoja jaunu iekšpagalmu. Jaunā pils daļa vairs tik lielā mērā nebija paredzēta aizsardzības nolūkiem, tai drīzāk bija reprezentācijas loma. Raksturīgs hercoga pils elements ir sgrafito stilā veidotais pils apmetums ar iluzoriem, uzzīmētiem kvadriem. [ENG] Bauskas castle is Bauskas biggest pride, it’s one of Zemgales prides. Bauskas castle is a part of the castle complex in Zemgale. The impressive castle, the remains of which were recently restored, stands on the narrow peninsula at the confluence of the rivers Mūsa and Mēmele where they form the Lielupe river. In ancient times, the hill was the site of an ancient Semigallian fortress. The first stone buildings were established between 1443 and 1456 by the Livonian branch of the Teutonic Knights and construction continued till the end of the 16th century. The old section of the castle featured a great watch tower, 3.5 meter thick walls, a prison under the tower, a garrison, and a drawbridge at the gates. After the collapse of the Teutonic Order in this area in 1562, Bauska Castle became the residence of the Dukes of Courland, for whom the adjacent palace was built in the 17th century. In 1702, during the Great Northern War, both castle and palace were blown up and left abandoned.
