Dia 23 - A Recuperação
 Mrs. Aouda começava a voltar a si. A influência a que os sacerdotes de Pillaji a tinham submetido dissipava-se pouco a pouco e seus lindos olhos recuperavam toda sua doçura indiana. A viúva do rajá do Bundelkund era uma mulher encantadora em todo o significado europeu da palavra. Falava inglês com grande pureza e o guia não exagerara em nada ao afirmar que esta jovem Parsi havia sido transformada pela educação.
Quando o rei-poeta, Uçaf Uddaul, celebra os encantos da rainha de Alméhnagara exprime-se assim:
“Os seus cabelos reluzentes, regularmente divididos ao meio, emolduram-lhe os contornos harmoniosos de suas faces delicadas e alvas, cintilantes de lustre e de frescor. Suas sobrancelhas de ébano têm a forma e o poder do arco de Kama, deus do amor, e sob os longos cílios sedosos, na pupila negra de seus grandes olhos límpidos, navegam como nos lagos sagrados do Himalaia os reflexos mais puros da luz celeste. Finos, iguais e brancos, seus dentes resplandecem entre seus lábios sorridentes, como gotas de orvalho no seio entreaberto de uma flor de romã. Suas orelhas pequenas de curvas simétricas, suas mãos rosadas, seus pequenos pés arqueados e tenros como os brotos do lótus, brilham com o luzir das mais belas pérolas de Ceilão, dos mais belos diamantes de Golconda. Sua cintura delgada e flexível, que basta uma mão para abraçar, realça a elegante curva dos seus arredondados rins e a riqueza de seu busto onde a juventude em flor guarda seus mais perfeitos tesouros; e, sob as sedosas dobras de sua túnica, parece ter sido modelada em pura prata pela mão divina de Vicvacarma, o eterno estatuário.”

Day 23 - Recovering
 Mrs. Aouda was slowly coming back to life. The influence to which the priests of Pillaji had subjected Aouda began gradually to disappear so that her fine eyes resumed all their soft Indian expression. The widow of Bundelkund rajah was a charming woman, in all the European acceptation of the phrase. She spoke English with great purity, and the guide had not exaggerated in saying that the young Parsee had been transformed by her education.
When the poet-king, Ucaf Uddaul, celebrates the charms of the queen of Ahmehnagara, he speaks thus:
‘Her shining tresses, divided in two parts, encircle the harmonious contour of her white and delicate cheeks, brilliant in their glow and freshness. Her ebony brows have the form and charm of the bow of Kama, the god of love, and beneath her long silken lashes the purest reflections and a celestial light swim, as in the sacred lakes of Himalaya, in the black pupils of her great clear eyes. Her teeth, fine, equal, and white, glitter between her smiling lips like dewdrops in a passion-flower’s half-enveloped breast. Her delicately formed ears, her vermilion hands, her little feet, curved and tender as the lotus-bud, glitter with the brilliancy of the loveliest pearls of Ceylon, the most dazzling diamonds of Golconda. Her narrow and supple waist, which a hand may clasp around, sets forth the outline of her rounded figure and the beauty of her bosom, where youth in its flower displays the wealth of its treasures; and beneath the silken folds of her tunic she seems to have been modelled in pure silver by the godlike hand of Vicvarcarma, the immortal sculptor.
