Geocache Description:

A series of caches following the course of the old Aberdeenshire canal, which ran between Aberdeen harbour and Port Elphinstone near Inverurie between 1805 and 1853.

Although the canal has almost completely disappeared (replaced by the railway for most of its route and built on or ploughed over for much of the rest) there are still remnants to be found.

Past Bucksburn, the canal swung north towards Stoneywood, following the contour of the ground. Very little of the canal's route can now be discerned in this area, but one of the few surviving milestones has been relocated close by, at the west end of Mugiemoss Road as it now is. This is the 4 1/2 milestone. These markers were positioned every half mile along the entire route of the canal and were used to determine the charges made for freight or passengers.

The cache is located close to this milestone. Please replace it the same way up as you find it to minimise the chances of moisture getting inside. A lot of stealth is required at this location - be wary! I would recommend searching for it outwith busy road times...
