Un peu d'histoire...
La guerre de 1914-1918 a causé de gros dégâts dans le sol de la Forêt de Retz: tranchées, trous d’obus, emplacements de batteries. Plus de 1000 ha de forêt ont été totalement détruits et 4000 ha criblés d’éclats de mitraille.
Les futaies de "Vauvaudran" et des "têtes de Chavigny" furent particulièrement touchées par les combats qui s'y déroulèrent en 1918.
La remise en état commença de façon sommaire en 1929 pour s'arrêter subitement en 1934.
Pendant la seconde guerre mondiale, la forêt de Retz est à nouveau exploitée par l'armée allemande puis Alliée et pour fournir du bois de chauffage à l'agglomération parisienne.
Il faudra attendre 1959 pour qu'un plan de reboisement et de régénération ambitieux soit mis en place.
Historical information
The first world war caused major damage to the ground of the Retz Forest : trenches, shell holes, emplacements of machine guns. More than 1,000 ha of forest were completely destroyed and 4,000 ha riddled with shards of shrapnel.
The forests of "Vauvaudran" and "têtes de Chavigny" were particularly affected by the fighting that took place there in 1918.
The basic restoration began in 1929 to stop suddenly in 1934.
During World War II, Retz Forest is operated by the German Army and Allied army after and also to provide firewood for the Paris region.
This is not until 1959 that a reforestation plan and ambitious regeneration is established.
