This is along the Russ' Creek Trail, a side trail of the Oak Ridges Trail. It used to be a community known as Russ' Creek. Several old farm foundations are nearby, including that of the one room school house, Russ' School, located at the junction of the two trails, south of the Nature Conservancy signage and near the fire sign . It is known as a good bridwatching trail. The soil is very sandy and not good farmland. This part was never farmed which is why it contains original rare prairie species.
