A nice sized plastic lockbox container, room for swaps and TBs
Parking at GZ, No need to climb over gates and fences....another easy access one for us pensioners. Only a minor road but be alert for traffic .
The next field gate way on the opposite side of the road a couple of hundred metres up the road towards Pickworth was the spot chosen by a chap named Tony Cook for its all round visibility of several miles.
Tony worked for the Peakirk wildfowl Trust waterfowl gardens, established in 1957, founded i believe by Sir Peter Scot (now sadly closed) he was also decoy man at Borough Fen Decoy not far from Peakiek wildfowl gardens.
I suppose it's got to be 30years plus since I used to stop and have a chat with Tony .......he would trap ducks at the decoy, put a ring on their leg and bring them out to just up the road from this cache as it was far enough away from Peakirk that the ducks didn't go straight back home....he would read the leg ring release the duck, record the direction it went and time it took to disappear into the distance.
Over several years he must have released and recorded hundreds maybe thousands of ducks from this spot.
Funny thing is, I never got round to asking him just what the object of the exercise was...so will just have to put it down to gathering data on ducks.
