Along the Oak Ridges Trail, the trees open up to reveal an unexpected long view, much like this area must have a looked a century or more ago.
This cache is in a section of the Oak Ridges Trail that is drivable in good weather, not serviced though, so not a good idea to drive hear after a storm and impossible in the winter without a snowmobile. This is part of the Rice Lake Plains and contains areas of original rare tallgrass prairie habitat, including poison ivy. Once it was part of a military route during the War of 1812, from Kingston to York. Later it was an area of farms which gradually declined because of the poor sandy soils.
