MADRE DA LEVADA DA RIBEIRA DA JANELA
Esta cache foi colocada pelos Saltadores da Corda Perdida na sua expedição aos confins da Levada da Ribeira da Janela, fazendo parte de um conjunto de caches lançadas nesse fim-de-semana por este grupo de amigos, numa zona ainda não explorada pelos geocacher’s.
Sendo esta Levada uma das mais frequentadas pelos turistas que nos visitam, o grupo decidiu percorrer toda a sua extensão entre a câmara de carga da Central Hidroeléctrica da Ribeira da Janela/Parque de Merendas dos Lamaceiros e a Madre D’Àgua da Levada, culminando esta digressão com a subida da própria Ribeira da Janela até à Levada da Rocha Vermelha, um desafio bem aliciante. Como se trata de um percurso extenso, decidiu-se efetuá-lo em 2 dias, havendo a natural necessidade de pernoitar. É esta sugestão que aqui deixamos a todos os que quiserem visitar este conjunto de caches. Se decidir fazer o mesmo percurso do que nós, não aconselhamos a fazê-lo sozinho nem de noite. É obrigatório o uso de lanterna, vestuário e calçado apropriado a longas caminhadas em terrenos variados e escorregadios. No vestuário constará o indispensável impermeável, pois por vezes pinga água do teto dos túneis, em particular no maior do percurso, com cerca de 1200 metros de comprimento. Especial atenção à logística necessária a uma pernoita. Obviamente, a tenda de campismo (e respetivos acessórios) e a existência de mantimentos básicos suficientes são essenciais para a sua comodidade e segurança.
As levadas madeirenses não são mais que canais ou aquedutos criados pelos primeiros habitantes da ilha, nascidas da necessidade de aproveitamento da água para a agricultura. Ao fim e ao cabo resultam num sistema de irrigação que são autênticas obras de arte que permitem os terrenos permanecerem aptos ao longo de todo o ano. A necessidade de captar o curso natural dos canais em altitudes elevadas, a fim de levar o precioso líquido para onde necessário, forçou o engenho que hoje em dia é reconhecido em todo o mundo. Um trabalho desenvolvido entre os séculos XV e XIX.
Madre da Levada - significa o local da origem da levada ou pontos de confluência com outros aquedutos. Para a cache encontrar, poderá iniciar o percurso no parque de merendas dos Lamaceiros ou iniciar a descida do Galhano. Ao percorrer a Levada da Ribeira da Janela e ao chegar à Ribeira da Janela. Terá que virar à esquerda.
Depois é só seguir o percurso da levada Até à sua Madre. O que demora cerca de 1h e 30 min. Ter em atenção que poderá encontrar solo escorregadio e zonas sem protecção. O túnel que existe antes de chegar à Madre da Levada é muito escorregadio devido à grande quantidade de lama lá existente. Por isso tenha muito cuidado. A Cache encontra-se no sitio conhecido como as origens da levada, onde poderá obsevar uma grande cascata. Para chegar até lá terá que fazer uma pequena escalada na rocha.
O sinal de GPS é confuso, deverá usar de preferência o Spoiler. O aumento do caudal poderá aumentar o grau de dificuldade ou até impedir o acesso ao GZ. Recomenda-se que faça esta cache durante o verão, acompanhado, com calçado apropriado, lanternas, impermeável, Mantimentos e água suficiente. TERRENO MUITO ESCORREGADIO, RISCO DE QUEDAS

Mother of The Levada Ribeira da Janela
This cache was placed by the "Saltadores da Corda Perdida" Leapers of the Lost Rope, in their expedition to the ends of the Levada da Ribeira da Janela, as one of a set of caches launched on that week-end were this group of friends, explored an area not yet used by the geocacher's. This being one most tourist frequented Levadas, the group decided to go the entire length between the loading chamber of the Hydroelectric Plant of Ribeira da Janela / Picnic Park to the beginning of the Levada, culminating this tour with going up "Ribeira da Janela" water stream until the "Levada da Rocha Vermelha", making it a long and challenging trail. As it is a long journey, it was decided to do it in two days, doing so makes it's necessary to stay overnight. This is the group suggestion for those who want to visit this set of caches. If you decide to do the same path that we did don't do it by yourself or at night time. It is mandatory to use a flashlight, clothing and footwear appropriate for long walks over slippery and changing terrain. It's essential to take waterproof clothing because sometimes water drips from the ceiling of the tunnels, particularly in larger one, with about 1,200 meters long. Special attention to the logistics required an overnight stay. Obviously, tent camping (and respective accessories) and the basic food supplies are essential for your comfort and safety.
Madeira Island "Levadas" are not more than water channels or aqueducts created by the first inhabitants of the island, they came with the need to use water for agriculture. In the the end they resulted in an irrigation system that is true work of art, that allow the land to remain fit throughout the year. The need to capture the natural course of the channels at high altitudes in order to get the precious liquid where necessary, forced the this ingenuity to be nowdays recognized worldwide. A work developed between the fifteenth and nineteenth centuries. Mother of the Levada - means the place of origin or were the leava begins. To find the cache, you can start the route in the picnic area of Lamaceiros or start the descent of Galhano. Follow the Levada da Ribeira da Janela and reach the Ribeira da Janela, the Levada continues past it, just keep following the Levada Until the end of it. It takes about 1 hour and 30 min after reaching the "Ribeira da Janela". Note that you can find slippery ground and unprotected areas. The tunnel before coming to the Mother of the Levada is very slippery due to the large amount of mud there, be very careful. The Cache is right on Mother's Levada where you observe it's large waterfall. To get there will have to do a little rock climbing on the right side. The GPS signal is weak and confusing, you should use the Spoiler. The increased water flow may increase the degree of difficulty or even prevent access to GZ. It is recommended to do this cache during the summer, accompanied with appropriate footwear, flashlights, waterproof, groceries and enough water.
