Geocache Description:

One muggy summer afternoon, a friend and I decided to go on a geocaching adventure in Roosevelt Island. Not a ton to do there, but the tranquility of this small isle is a break from the bustle of the city. We opted for the scenic route and took the tram to Roosevelt Island from Manhattan. After exploring the island and finding two really neat caches in the process, we decided to hide one of our own. My partner and I finally settled on this location after circling the entire island. BYOP.

Few non-NYers know of, never mind having visited, Roosevelt Island. For those not in the know, RI is a small residential island nestled between Manhattan and Queens. :::TIPS::: * There are two ways to get to RI by public transportation: 1) via the tram located on 59th st and 2nd ave Manhattan or 2) via the F subway line. Only take option 2 if you have an extreme fear of heights -- it is far less enjoyable. For the same price, option 1 gives you a ~5 min ride with a fantastic view of the East River. Great way to sight-see on a budget and is highly enjoyable for kids and adults. The tram is in close proximity to Dylan's Candy Bar & Serendipity on the Manhattan side (if you are doing the "touristy" thing) and a short walk away from FDR Park on the RI side, so pack a picnic and enjoy! Note: The trams do not have a/c, so prepare to sweat during your ride over if the weather is even a bit warm. * Transfers to the tram from MTA subways/buses are free if it's within the 2 hour transfer window from your first swipe. Take advantage of it! * If you're tired, hop onto the local red RI bus. For $0.25 (yes, a quarter!) you will basically get a tour of the island.
