Geocache Description:

Hidden by 3 Fools - This cache brings you a nice view of the Hudson River and the Tappan Zee Bridge. Hike length depends on where you start from, see below.

Update 4/28/2013 - I used to have several alternate coordinates in here, but after several logs saying the alternates were better than the official coords, I've finally updated the official ones. I really think those should get you to within 20' of the spot.

Lots of people seem to be afraid of falling off a cliff, but the cache location is/was pretty safe as far as I can tell. If you think you're about to step off a cliff, you might be in the wrong spot or approaching from the wrong direction.

Update 7/7/02: The cache has been slightly moved and GREATLY improved thanks to Perfect Tommy! I have update the coordinates and reduced the difficulty rating by .5 - the hike is still either long or hard (depending which path you choose) so I didn't want to drop it down too much until I get a chance to see it. Please read Tommy's 7/7 post for further info, and please feel free to continue to modify the cache.

The cache has been upgraded by gracious visitors to be a full fledged ammo can [previously: just a gallon ziplock bag containing one item. If you like, you can add stuff (and we may later) but please do not take the original item (it will be obvious when you get there). There is no log book, but a piece of paper and a pencil - if you want to bring a notebook, please do! I thought it would be cool to let this cache evolve since we really only decided to plant it at the last minute - if you want to bring a bigger container, do that too.]

Cache is located on a "hillside" which could be dangerous if you push it, but where it's hidden isn't too steep. (see pics below) Be careful though. GPS had 17 foot accuracy when I took the reading. Elevation of cache is 572, at a cliff.

You can enter via the Long Path (green blaze) from the town of Rockland Lake (near the firehouse) at: 41 8.56N/73 54.774W. A slightly steeper but shorter hike is from the (yellow) trailhead on Rt. 9W in Valley Cottage at: 41 7.222N/73 55.459W. The terrain rating is really only cause it's not a short hike - the trails are pretty good.

Cache is Near Hesoid and Rocky Hudson, but I don't know if there's really a direct way to Rocky Hudson.

Enjoy!
-aberson, Josh, Steve
