Geocache Description:

There is a cache at this location, and there is helpful information in here. Please let us know when map supply is low.

The "Elk Country" is a series of caches in Elk Country outside of Atlanta, MI. These caches were placed according to coordinates which provided some surprises when actually placing them, you'll see. This is designed as family friendly so all caches are medium or bigger, with SWAG swapping opportunities. The whole series is in upland forest, so even during wet weather, everything is accessible, mostly. Watch the Difficulty/Terrain, Terrain of 2 or less is little kid friendly. Terrain 4 is not as people friendly. Some are close to the road, some are not. There is no phone signal out here so please download caches beforehand if using a smartphone. Please waypoint your vehicle as there are alot of trails out here and coming out of the woods on the wrong one can leave you some distance from the geomobile. Not designed as a power trail, but more of an orienteering exercise, with you figuring the best route to the caches. After visiting each cache you will quickly find a way that was easier than you came, such is geocaching. A great place for new and established geocachers to hone the skills. Tree cover can be troublesome for GPS in areas

Be aware that if you attempt these in May, you'll probably be crossing someone's secret mushroom woods, (including mine...we all have the same "secret" spots). If muggles get defensive, give them space. In October and November this is everyone's secret deer hunting spot, same deal, as this is a pretty big chunk of public property.

Your chances of seeing an elk are pretty high as many clearings and trails provide good viewing areas. I personally guarantee that you will find tracks in the sand. If you don't see any live ones, be assured they saw or heard you. They don't run from people, so be careful not to get too close, they can stomp you into the ground. Congratulations dpbotkin on being first to complete the challenge on 8/21/2015

This has proved to be more challenging terrain, so bring water, good shoes and a walking stick

Thanks to angelsunshine for placing and maintaining this cache This cache is part of the Elk Country cache series.
