The early history of the church here in Holmesfield is a matter of much speculation and little proof.

It is belived that there has been a place of worship on the site of St. Swithin's since 641AD.

D = The last digit on the clock face - The number of windows on the tower
E = Number of clock faces on the tower.
F = 1st digit on clock face + number of windows on the tower
G = Last digit of number on clock face + number of spikes on tower - Last digit of year on door stone
