Welcome to the Paget Railway Trail!

Managed by the Department of Parks, the present day Bermuda Railway Trail is a set of linear parklands, stretching across most of the island, providing a vital respite from the busy roads for walkers and cyclists.

In 1908 the Motor Car Act banned private motor vehicles from Bermuda's roads, in an attempt to protect Bermuda's carefully cultivated quiet, peaceful and unique image to our overseas visitors.

However, with an improving tourism industry there was an increasing demand for some form of internal transportation. In 1932 the Bermuda Railway was opened, with a route from Somerset to Hamilton and to St. Georges. However, it was soon found that the train was not economically feasible and it was eventually closed in 1947, shortly after a new Motor Car Act allowed for the ownership of private motor vehicles.

In 1984, nearly 40 years after the railway closed, the Bermuda Government transformed the remaining right of way into a trail for walkers and cyclists. These trails give local residents and visitors a welcomed opportunity to escape the busy streets and stroll through often quiet and scenic parts of Bermuda. The scenery on the trail can vary from breathtaking coastlines to backcountry greenery.

To get onto this section of the Railway Trail you'll need to go to where Ord Road or Cobbs Hill Road crosses the trail.

Please do not drive any vehicles down the trail.

Bus # 2
