As you probably already know, Grandma Moses found her donkey George on a farm outside the Kentucky Derby. George was running so fast he could easily compete in the race. Grandma Moses bought him right then and there from the Kentuckian farmer and has had many adventures with him since.
Back in 1974 when Bob Costas was just beginning his professional career, Grandma Moses met him at Queeny Park. Grandma Moses was out riding with George through the meadow and Bob Costas was riding his horse, Spirit, who he named after the Spirits of St. Louis. Bob was immediately drawn towards George. Must be the fact that George had raced in the Kentucky Derby and that Bob would later host the Kentucky Derby starting in 2001.
