Geocache Description:

This cache is placed along the second use of the back straight. There are great views across to Tidbinbilla and Gibraltar Rocks from here.

This is one of a series of caches that highlights the route of the infamous Mineshaft stage that was used for the 2013 National Capital Rally, which was also round 1 of the Australian Rally Championship. This was a return of the ARC to the forests of Canberra after a 5 year absence to celebrate Canberra’s 100th Birthday.

This stage was Special Stage 2 and was run on the 2nd March and had a competitive distance of 16.03kms. As it turned out it was quite an eventful stage with 2 major crashes occurring. The first was Welsh driver Elfyn Evans who came unstuck about 10kms into the stage. An interview containing footage of the crash can be found at Evans Rollover.

Later in the day a Bathurst driver, Leigh Gotch came unstuck on the infamous Mineshaft about, 13.41kms into the stage. Footage of his traverse of the Mineshaft is at Gotch Rollover.

Jusojara, Diamantina Stars, Delta Response Team and Buzz701 were present and assisted with hiding this cache and will log a find once the First to Find after publication has logged their find.
