Hughesdale Interchange Time-Table Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

SirJ-Oz: The skyrail destruction team has been through and completely decimated the entire area.

There is no sign of the feature that inspired the cache, or the cache.

So after almost 3 years, and 233 logged finds, it is time to go.

It's was fun while it lasted.

Geocache Description:

This cache is SirJ-Oz's seventh cache. A traditional that shouldn't be too hard.

Hughesdale Interchange Time-Table

The Hughesdale Interchange (a term that I made up), is where the Cranboune / Packenham train line connects with the 767 Bus.
Every time I venture past this spot, I wonder at the logic of placing the structure at GZ. It certainly seems superflious to requirements, until now. I've put a geocache here to highlight the spot and make others marvel at the logic that placed this structure at the indicated location.

Hughesdale railway station

Hughesdale is a railway station in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, located in the suburb of Hughesdale, on the Pakenham railway line and Cranbourne railway line. Hughesdale station is unmanned and is in Metcard Zones 1+2.

Hughesdale station is located at the eastern end of the Poath Road level crossing, which provides station access.
The station consists of two platforms, in an island format, with a large brick building at the Flinders Street end of the station. Myki machines, replacing the earlier Metcard machines removed during 2012, are located at the entrance to the platforms. A public telephone is located on Platform 2, and sheltered seating is available. Five bike racks and six lockers are located behind the main building, and fifty car parking places are available on the opposite side of Poath Road.

Hughesdale station opened on 28 February 1925. The station and suburb were named in honour of James Vincent Hughes, mayor of Oakleigh from 1924 to 1925 who, with the Poath Road Railway Station League, lobbied heavily for a new station for the area. In 1924 the League suggested the station be called "Hugheston", but in February 1925, shortly before the station opened, Victorian Railways decided its name would be "Hughesdale". Hughesdale was once the junction for the Outer Circle and Rosstown railway lines.

The Container

The container is a 200ml sistema with the following initial contents;

  • Stash note
  • Log book
  • Writing tool (thanks to the "assemble-it-yourself" store)
  • 1m retractable tape measure
  • Lego-like substitute girl figurine (slightly damaged) - donated by eldest geocachelette
  • and my signature "circular collectable tag indicating that in some way, our paths have crossed" for a FTF prize

FTF honours goes to spiffy-, just barely beating Spladem to it, that is an achievement in itself.

Logging Etiquette: Geocache hiders sometimes go through a great deal of planning to place their caches. As a result, they'd like to hear your feedback on whether you liked or disliked any aspect of the hide, or if you feel that some cache maintenance is required. Single word, acronym, or emoticon logs may be easier when you have a lot of caches to log, but it doesn't tell the hider or other finders anything about your adventure (or lack thereof) in finding the cache. Please keep this in mind when entering your log.
