"We Have Such Sights to Show You...."
"Hell Is Just Ahead" (GC8159) — so named for the inscription, carved on a nearby tree in 1961 — has been archived, but its legacy lives on. The original cache was placed in 2002; I found it in 2008, not long after I started geocaching. As you can see in the photo above, the inscription on the tree has faded somewhat, but when viewed from the proper angle, it is still easily legible. I had searched in vain for this tree on numerous occasions, based on the coordinates given on the original cache page. However, those coordinates were 60 to 70 feet off; so when I finally did discover the tree today, it seemed only fitting that a new geocache should replace the old. Due to proximity issues, the cache could not be placed at the tree itself, which you may find at N 36 10.269 W 079 49.735.
You are looking for a small, camo'd container, large enough to hold a few trade and trackable items, hidden along the Laurel Bluff Trail. It's close enough to the trail that muggles may occasionally come round — some of them seeking the doorway to hell themselves (this actually happened while I was hiding the cache) — so use stealth as needed. Bring your own pen and please be sure to re-hide the cache just as you found it. Just be wary of conjuring with certain items in the box; you don't know what kinds of things you might bring forth....
