Le site de Mantelot, ancien passage permettant aux bateaux circulant sur le vieux canal de traverser la Loire, mérite une visite au même titre que le Pont-Canal de Briare, son successeur bien connu. Nous vous proposons une promenade de 45 mn à 1 h (4 km) autour de cet espace dévoué au tourisme nautique et à la promenade en espace naturel.
PK : Garez-vous au point de parking indiqué.
WP1 : Longez le port de plaisance pour accéder à la passerelle qui vous permettra de franchir le Canal de Briare (nouveau canal).
Indice A : sur la passerelle se trouve un panneau pour les bateliers. Relevez le plus grand nombre inscritA = _
En vous rendant au WP2, vous passerez devant une plaque de rue (Rue Octave et Renée Montembault).
Indice B : notez la couleur de fond du blason de Châtillon sur Loire : B = _
B = 0 si le fond est bleu
B = 2 si le fond est jaune
B = 4 si le fond est gris
B = 6 si le fond est rouge
WP2 : Une statue de St Nicolas (patron des navigateurs) est visible sur la façade de cette maison.
Indice C : relevez la date et réduisez le nombre à 1 chiffre par addition : C = _
WP3 : tournez à droite et descendez au bord du bassin. Sur cette gare d'eau pouvant accueillir jusqu'à 150 bateaux en même temps, se trouvait jusqu'en 1853 une grande halle (34 m x 16 m). Elle a été démontée et implantée à Châteauneuf-sur-Loire où elle se situe encore. Poursuivez jusqu'au WP4.
WP4 : tournez à gauche, traversez le canal et continuez tout droit . En hiver, cette zone est le paradis des perce-neige.
WP5 : vous arrivez à l'une des extrémités de l'Ile à Gaston, zone naturelle protégée.
Indice D : plusieurs panneaux vous renseignent sur les circuits de randonnée.
Notez le chiffre du PR DU SENTIER DE GASTON : D = _
WP6 : début d'une aire de piquenique en bord de Loire.
Longez la Loire jusqu'à l'écluse.
WP7 : le bâtiment servait de "bureau de déclaration et de visa" comme l'indique encore le bandeau de bois sur le mur côté Loire.
Sur le mur de la rampe d'accès, figure une gravure qui indique l'une des plus grandes crues centennales (6,70 m).
Indice E : notez le dernier chiffre de la date : E = _
WP8 : plusieurs panneaux vous renseignent sur le fonctionnement du passage à niveau permettant la traversée de la Loire avant la construction du Pont-Canal de Briare.
Traversez l'écluse (attention aux enfants : accès non protégé)
WP9 : maison éclusière (B&B, café, restaurant, location de poneys). Elle a sa jumelle de l'autre côté de la loire (camping municipal).
Indice F : notez le numéro de cette maison : F = _
Vous pouvez maintenant rejoindre la cache et votre destination finale en reconstituant les coordonnées avec les indices que vous avez recueillis.

Pourquoi "VERT" ?
Ma première cache posée (GC3VHY2) était une boîte verte, avec un stylo vert, un log book vert et des objets d'échange verts. Ainsi est née l'idée de placer les caches qui ont suivi sous le signe du "VERT" et de proposer un challenge consistant à y déposer de préférence des objets "VERTs". Ce challenge ne peut malheureusement pas concerner les caches de taille nano ou micro mais l'utilisation d'un stylo VERT reste possible 
.

The site of Mantelot, former passage allowing boats circulating on the old canal to cross the Loire, deserves a visit in the same way as the Canal Bridge of Briare, it's well known successor. We suggest you a walk of 45 mn / 1 h (4 km) around this space devoted to the nautical tourism and to the walk in natural space.
PK : Park in the point indicated.
WP1 : follow the marina up to the the footbridge which will allow you to cross the new canal (Canal de Briare).
Digit A : on the footbridge is a sign for the boatmen. Find the registered largest number A = _
By going to the WP2, you will pass in front of a street plate (Street Octave and Renée Montembault).
Digit B : note the color of background on the blazon of Châtillon-sur-Loire: B = _
B = 0 if the color is blue
B = 2 if the color is yellow
B = 4 if the color is grey
B = 6 if the color is red
WP2 : St Nicolas's statue (patron of the sailormen) is visible on the facade of this house.
Digit C : find the date and reduce the number to 1 digit by addition : C = _
WP3 : turn right and to come down at the edge of the pond. On this "station" which could welcome up to 150 boats at the same time, was until 1853 a big hall (34 m x 16 m). It was unsettled and implanted in Châteauneuf-sur-Loire where it is still situated. Continue up to the WP4.
WP4 : turn left, cross the canal and continue straight ahead. In winter, this zone is the paradise of snowdrops.
WP5 : you arrive at one of the extremities of the Ile à Gaston, a protected natural zone.
Digit D : several signs inform you about the circuits of hike

WP6 : beginning of an area of picnic in edge of the Loire
Follow the Loire up to the lock.
WP7 : the building served as an "office of declaration and visa " as still indicated it the wooden banner on the wall.
On the wall of the access ramp, an engraving indicates one of the biggest centennial floods (6,70 m).
Digit E : note the last figure of date: E = _
WP8 : several panels inform you about the functioning of the grade crossing the Loire before the construction of the Canal Bridge of Briare.
Cross the lock (Pay attention on the children: no protected access)
WP9 : house of the lock keeper (B&B, bar, restaurant, rent of ponies). It has her twin on the other side of the Loire (municipal campsite).

You can now join the hiding place and your final destination by reconstituting the coordinates with the digits that you collected.

Why "VERT" ?
My first placed geocache (GC3VHY2) was a green box, with a green pen, a green log portfolio and green items of exchange. So was born the idea to place the geocaches which followed under the sign of the "VERT" and to propose a challenge consisting in depositing there rather "GREEN" objects. This challenge cannot unfortunately concern the geocaches of nano size or micro size but the use of a GREEN pen remains possible
