La Bastide
La charte authentifiant la bastide Saint-Eulalia a été rédigée en 1288 par Pierre Brémond, seigneur du lieu et vassal du comte d’Angoulême. Elle fixait les droit et devoirs des paysans qui bénéficiaient en échange de la protection du seigneur.
Sancta Eulalia doit son nom à Sainte-Eulalie de Mérida martyrisée au début du IVème siècle sous l’empereur Maximilien.
Saint-Aulaye est dès l’origine dans la mouvance des comtes d’Angoulême, jusqu’à la création du département de la Dordogne en 1790. Intégrée à l’Angournois pendant près de huit siècles, elle n’en demeure pas moins une terre Périgourdine par la langue occitane jusqu’à nos jours et par son appartenance au diocèse de Périgueux.
La bastide s’est organisée à l’ouest du château fort, tenant compte du relief. C’est une extension urbaine destinée à accueillir la population nouvelle en lui octroyant des terrains destinés à la construction (les maniements). Les villageois doivent en échange payer des taxes pour l’utilisation obligatoires de certains services : four, moulin…
The Bastide The charter authenticating the fortified St. Eulalia was drafted in 1288 by Pierre Bremond, local lord and vassal of the Count of Angouleme. She laid down the law and duties of farmers who received in exchange for the protection of the Lord. Sancta Eulalia is named after St. Eulalia of Merida martyred in the early fourth century under Emperor Maximilian. St. Aulaye is from the outset in the wake of the counts of Angoulême, until the creation of the Dordogne in 1790 Built in Angournois for almost eight centuries, it remains a land Perigord by the Occitan language to the present day and its membership in the diocese of Périgueux. The country house is organized west of the castle, taking into account the terrain. It is an urban extension designed to accommodate the new population by granting land for construction (the handlings).
