L'église de Sainte-Marie de Cuns ou le Notre-dame de Cuns fut construite entre les 12ème et 15ème siècles. Situé sur les hauteurs des rives de la Dourbie, dans le hameau des Cuns sur la commune de Nant.
De style roman, le choeur et l'abside dans le fond ont été construits au 12ème siècle avant 1135 d’après les textes, tandis que la nef est du 14ème siècle, d'autres parties datent du 15ème siècle.
La partie romane de l'édifice présente une abside et un choeur avec, à l'intérieur, huit colonnettes dégagées supportant sept arcatures. L'abside est voûtée par un cul de four à pans. Le choeur et la travée qui le précède sont couverts par un berceau supportant un clocher carré ajouré de deux baies sur chaque face. La nef avec son porche en encorbellement est une reconstruction postérieure, sans doute du 14e siècle. La face ouest de l'église et le porche ont été sûrement fortifiés. La chapelle sud remonte au 15e siècle. L'édifice est recouvert en lauzes calcaires posées à cru sur forme en terre.
Sur le territoire de la commune de Nant, dans les hameaux qui en dépendent, existent encore, en plus de l'église abbatiale Saint-Pierre (classée Monument Historique depuis 1862), cinq églises romanes: la chapelle Saint-Martin du Vican, l’église Saint-Michel de Rouviac, Notre-Dame des Cuns, l’église Sainte-Etienne de Cantobre et celle de Saint-Sauveur du Larzac.
C’est par une bulle du pape Innocent II datée de 1135, que l'église fut réunie à la mense abbatiale de Saint-Pierre de Nant.
Le culte est cessé d'y être célébré vers 1840. Elle est désormais désaffecté et appartient à la municipalité.
L'édifice est classé au titre des monuments historiques le 26 mars1942.
Son entrée est libre, mais vous êtes prié de respecter les lieux.
