Church Micro 3190…Oare
Oare has been the site of a Christian settlement since Saxon times and it was merged with Chieveley after the evidently important Priory was demolished in Henry VIII’s reign. The present chapel of St. Bartholomew was built in 1852 by the then Vicar, the Revd. J. E. Robinson, and John Betjeman wrote of being charmed by the small stone and flint building under towering cedar trees – one of which remains.
I too was charmed… and thought it a lovely spot for a cache.
The cache is a small container containing a log only – please bring your own pen.
If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication.
