This area used to be home to the Woodside Cotton works and further evidence of the factory's existence can be found scattered all along the river Don paths. This cache has been moved to a different spot after some extreme weather downed trees and a section of wall.
Woodside Works opened in 1779 and was employing more than 3000 people by 1822. The mill was driven by water from the River Don and you can still see the remains of the sluice gates and the lades that were utilised. The cotton works were erected by Messrs. Gordon, Barron and Company of Aberdeen, who also established printing and a bleach-field here.
