Faz parte do conjunto de vértices que indicam posições cartográficas para calculo, por triangulação, das coordenadas de qualquer ponto de Portugal. Este sistema de vértices geodésicos está a ser substituído com grandes vantagens por sistemas mais modernos, entre eles o GPS.
Do local do vértice obtém-se uma excelente vista sobre a vila de Manique do Intendente e toda a área envolvente.
