Welcome to the Nation's Capital! Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) is just 26 miles from downtown Washington, DC. With its nearby monuments and museums, its stately government buildings and mansions, and world-renowned cherry blossoms it is a travel hub for visitors from around the globe. As the largest airport to one of the most famous cities in the world, I figured it could use a Travel Bug Hotel.
This cache was placed to facilitate the exchange of travel bugs and coins as geocachers pass through the area. Whenever I travel to new areas I really appreciate having a Travel Bug Hotel that I can feel comfortable leaving something in, yet isn't hard to get to if I'm short on time. The cache itself is on the Grounds of the Marriott Hotel, and was placed with permission of the manager. It is an easy stop off to/from the airport with a car, but there is a hotel shuttle that runs every 15 minutes between sections 2A/2H of the main terminal.
The cache itself is a water-tight container with a log and room for multiple travel bugs or coins. My kids look forward to seeing where all the visitors are from and tracking the progress of tags that pass through. Please do not leave non-trackable items in this cache, as it is geared for those swapping TB's.
