Geocache Description:

Who: Anyone who loves being on the water
What: Kayaking/Canoeing
Where: Down the beautiful St. John River
When: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm (approx)
Why: To enjoy some peace and quiet on the water

It’s time to grab your boat to canoe or kayak the day away on New Brunswick’s beautiful St. John River, the second longest river on the Canadian/American East Coast, which, eventually, drains into the Bay of Fundy. This section of the river is the beginning of what they call the “Rhine of North America” for its popularity with boaters and recreationalists alike. The Rhine begins below the Mactaquac Dam and continues all the way to the city of Saint John.

We will begin the day at 9:00 am at Angelview Park and organize transportation of all watercraft to the drop off point just below the Mactaquac Headpond. We have an expected 10:00 am departure time from the Headpond. We will arrange to have all vehicles waiting for you at the completion of the expedition, back at Angelview Park.

This trip will offer plenty of sightings of wildlife from birds, deer, beaver and other varieties. During the trip we will have opportunities to stop at some of the small islands littered along the way, take a walk among the full grown fiddlehead ferns and grab a few caches, too. Relax and watch the shores float by and enjoy the winding curves of the river. A typical trip along this section is 3-4 hours depending on the flow of the river.

Whether you are a beginner or experienced paddler we will offer a water safety review before we start our trip. Life jackets or PFDs are a must to go on the trip; for everyone going on the river. It is recommended you also bring some sunscreen, bug spray, a hat and liquids/snacks for the trip. Shoes made for wearing in the water would also be a good idea.
