Church Micro 3497…Hainford – Old Church Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

IndieRockhopper: I am unable to repair/replace this particular cache at the present time. I have also become concerned that, although it can be accessed on foot safely and without crossing a very busy road (as originally envisaged),it is clear that many people drive from the first stage to the cache location and access the cache by crossing the road twice. Now seems an appropriate time to archive this cache.

Geocache Description:

A fairly straightforward multi cache, designed to be part of the national Church Micro series.

These are the remains of the first Church of All Saints, Hainford. It is now Grade II listed. The remains of the West Tower go back to the 15th Century, although part of the building was added in the 19th Century. There is some evidence to suggest that there was a church on the site in the late 13th Century, the list of rectors goes back to 1295.

The tower now is clearly in a ruinous state. There are warning notices and a fence in place telling people: “Danger Falling Masonry Keep Out”.
These warnings should be heeded. Just because there is a nice graveyard to hand, is no reason to make early use of it!

I’ve had, and continue to have, a long association with both Hainford churches and attended the local primary school – both were spelled Haynford in those days – it seemed fitting to site my first two caches close to both locations.

At the listed co-ordinates there is good parking available and a notice board with an eleven digit telephone number. The first number = A; the second = B; the third = C; and so on. The final cache is located at: N52 FG.(K+J)B(F+K) E001 B(G+I).J(I-G)H It is possible that this notice may disappear. If it does, then the hints for cache 2. and the description above, should still enable you to locate it fairly easily. When visiting the church, please note that the graveyard is still in use, so please be respectful as friends and relatives of the deceased may be present or nearby, and burials still take place there.
Please replace the container as found. Thank You.
