Geocache Description:

A nice easy cache for when you're awaiting a train.

Chartham is a picturesque village in the garden of England.

Originally there was to be no station at Chartham when the southeastern railway opened it's line from Ashford to Ramsgate, but when the rival London Chatham and Dover railway suggested they may want to open a station on their line half a mile north of the village, the SER decided to open the station that is there now.

Originally there was a goodshed, station buildings and crossing keepers cottage, but none of these survived rationalization in the 60's. Now the signal box and manned level crossing are all that remains of this past life.

Chartham station is served by one train in each direction hourly.
