Geocache Description:

This is one of two cemeteries along Highway 34 in Old Bridge Township.  The other, a Methodist Episcopal church and cemetery is located just up the road and information can be found on the cache page GC462PY.

In trying to find out information about this location I found different details on different websites. The historical sign at the front of the cemetery states:   Site of primitive baptist church.  Rev. Able Morgan, patriot of revolution, preached in a log cabin at Cheesequake, 1740's.  Cemetery contains graves of pioneer families, patriots, and soldiers of 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries.

Some information on that sign appears to be incorrect.  First, his name is Abel, not Able.  Secondly, the sign would lead you to believe that he was a pastor at this church when all other information states that he was a pastor in Middletown.  Perhaps he also traveled to surrounding towns and preached on occasion.  That would satisfy the discrepancy.

An article in the New York Times of May 7th, 1887 said:   Rev. Abel Morgan was pastor from 1738 to until his death in 1785. “When the battle of Monmouth was fought on a Sunday, June 28, 1778, he preached from the text, “Trust in Him at all times,” and during the service the cannonading the battlefield, 12 miles away, could be distinctly heard by the congregation. That night the defeated British army came through the village and pillaged the place.”

But this cache and location is about the cemetery and not about Reverend Morgan.  Unlike the neighboring cemetery where you can see the foundation of the old church, that is not the case here.  It is still obvious where it once stood because of the open area unoccupied by tombstones.  As you walk around the cemetery you can see many old graves and it is a shame that the majority are so weathered that they are nearly unreadable.  There are quite a few that are newer and unweathered.  The newest one I found is dated with a death in 1970.

And similar to the one up the road, this one also has historical importance and also appears abandoned to neglect.

BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL WHEN PARKING.  I WOULD ADVISE PULLING ALL THE WAY ONTO THE GRASS.  I'M NOT SURE OF THE AUTOBODY SHOP'S HOURS BUT SUNDAY PARKING THERE SHOULD BE AVAILABLE. I WOULD AVOID PARKING AT THE DAY CARE CENTER ON ANY DAY.

To find the cache (a lock n lock) you first must find Martin Burlew.  He is laying down near the historical sign at the front of the cemetery.

D - The numerical month he was born.
E - The day he was born added to the last number of the year he died.
F - Multiply the second number of the year he was born times the third number of the year he died.  Then divide by the last number in the year he was born.  Then multiply by the first number in the year he was born.
