Sculptured Rocks Natural Area Earthcache
Sculptured Rocks Natural Area is a unique example of nature's powerful yet delicate artistry. The Cockermouth River carved a narrow canyon in bedrock on its way to Newfound Lake, as the beginning of the last ice age drew to a close. Nature carved the walls of the canyon into curious shapes and create potholes in the bedrock. Sculptured Rocks Natural Area spans 272 acres. Popular activities include exploring the sculpted canyons, picnicking, and hiking. The unusual formations in the canyons afford many great opportunities for fantastic photographs. There is plenty of shade and a river right near the entrance and running through the area perfect for wading and swimming, so Sculpted Rocks Natural Area is a perfect destination on hot summer days. Pets are allowed in Sculptured Rocks. Sculptured Rocks Natural Area is un-staffed and open to the public year-round at no charge. Plenty of parking a few yards beyond the gorge.

2) Based on your observation on the flow of water and the marks that can be seen within the pothole(s) what direction does the water circulate to create the formation? A: Clockwise B: Counterclockwise
3) , How many years ago, approximate, was this area shaped.
4) At the end of which Ice Age? Note Sign temporarily gone, internet or best guess will do until it has been returned.
5) What force of nature created the potholes, name at least four.
