[English]Art Gallery Varna

Boris Georgiev City Art Gallery is housed in the building of the former Boys’ High School and is one of the most remarkable architectural monuments of Varna. This romantic building is in Neo-Gothic style of the end of the 19th c.
The City Art Gallery was established by Protocol No 9 of 12 Jan. 1944 of the General meeting of the Society of Varna artists. Among its founders were K. Shivarov, K. Shtarkelov, M. Sheytanov, T. Berbatov, G. Gospodinov, A. Manolov, Arch. S. Popov, A. Dyakovich and others. It has been housed in the Boys’ High School since 1988 after reconstruction of the building. In 1999 after a resolution of the Municipal council it was named Boris Georgiev. The second and third floors of the Gallery host a permanent exhibition of painting, sculpture and graphic works selected from the Gallery’s own fund. The collection traces chronologically the development of the Bulgarian art from the beginning of the 20th c up to the most recent art events: from the paintings and sculptures of the Academic Realism, Impressionism and Symbolism, through the “National Art Movement” and “The New Artists” of the 1920’s and 1930’s to the Figuratism, Neo-Expressionism, Abstractionism and Post-Modernism of the 1960’s to the 1990’s. The permanent exhibition includes also collections of the Bulgarian classics. Special place is dedicated to twelve paintings of Boris Georgiev donated by his daughter Virginia Giacometti. The Gallery hosts also unique works of the Dutch portrait painting of the 17th c, which have been donated to the Gallery.

[Български]Художествена галерия Варна

Градската художествена галерия "Борис Георгиев" е разположена в сградата на бившата Мъжка гимназия. Тя е построена в края на ХІХ в. и е издържана в традицията на неоготическата архитектура.
Градската художествена галерия е създадена със специален протокол от 12 януари 1944 г. на Общо събрание на Дружеството на Варненските художници. Сред учредителите са Кирил Шиваров, Константин Щъркелов, Александър Дякович и др. Намира се на сегашното си място от 1988 г. след основна реконструкция на сградата на Мъжката гимназия. От 1999 г., след решение на Общинския съвет носи името на Борис Георгиев. Постоянната експозиция е разположена на втория и третия етаж и включва творби на живописта, графиката и скулптурата, избрани от собствения й фонд. Тя представя развитието на българското изкуство от ХХ в. до най-съвременните художествени явления от живописта и скулптурата на академичния реализъм, импресионизма и символизма, през “движението за родно изкуство” и “новите художници” от двадесетте и тридесетте години на миналия век до фигуративизма, неоекспресионизма, абстракционизма и постмодернизма от 60-те до 90-те години на ХХ век. В постоянната експозиция са включени и отделни колекции на български класици. Специално място в нея заемат и дванадесет живописни платна на Борис Георгиев, дарени от неговата дъщеря Вирджиния Джакомети. Галерията също така притежава и уникални творби на холандската портретна живопис от ХVІІ в. на художника Анселм Хулс, постъпили също като дарение.
