L’auteur de Courrier sud, Vol de Nuit, du Petit Prince… a vécu au Mans, de 1909 à 1919. À la fin de l'été 1909, sa famille s'installe au Mans, région d'origine de son père. Le jeune Antoine sera élève du collège Notre-Dame de Sainte-Croix, de la 6e à la seconde. Elève turbulent, il écrit régulièrement des vers, dessine sans arrêt dans un style caricatural, et passe beaucoup de temps au jardin des Plantes.
