Circuito do Estoril – Quatro décadas a fazer história
Inaugurado a 16 de Junho de 1972, o Circuito do Estoril teve de esperar até 1982 para se ver incluído no Campeonato FIA F2, o que acabou por, em 1984, abrir as portas do Autódromo do Estoril à “creme de la creme” do automobilismo internacional, o Campeonato do Mundo de Fórmula Um, competição que recebeu até 1996.
Foi a época de ouro do Estoril. Quem é que não se lembra do segundo lugar de Niki Lauda em 1984 que lhe deu o terceiro e último título Mundial? Ou da primeira vitória da carreira de Ayrton Senna em 1985 ao volante de um Lotus JPS debaixo de forte chuva? Mas não é tudo. O Autódromo do Estoril testemunhou a segunda vitória da carreira de F1 do antigo Campeão do Mundo, Michael Schumacher; isto sem esquecer o primeiro triunfo de Coulthard na categoria rainha em 1995, ou da primeira pole position de sempre de Gerhard Berger ou da segunda de Damon Hill? Todas estas memórias fazem já parte integrante da história do Estoril e estão ainda bem vivas nos corações dos fãs que a elas assistiram. (http://www.circuito-estoril.pt)
Hoje em dia, entre várias actividades ao longo do ano, o MotoGP domina e eleva o prestigio do autodromo do estoril. Mesmo hoje enquanto escrevo estas palavras oiço claramenet a 8Km de distância o VRRRuuuummmm das Grandes Máquinas.
[EN] The Autódromo do Estoril (officially, Autódromo Fernanda Pires da Silva) is a motorsport race track in Portugal that became a popular event on the F1 calendar, the setting for many well-known moments including Niki Lauda winning the 1984 championship, his third and final, from McLaren team mate Alain Prost by just half a point by finishing second to Prost at the 1984 Portuguese Grand Prix. Three times world champion Ayrton Senna's first F1 win in 1985, Nigel Mansell's notorious black flag incident and subsequent collision with Senna in 1989, Jacques Villeneuve's overtaking Michael Schumacher around the outside of the final turn in 1996, and Riccardo Patrese's being launched airborne in a near-backward flip after colliding with Gerhard Berger on the main straight in 1992.

Today, amongst several different activities, the MotoGP dominates the track and even as I write these words I can here the roaring VRRrrrruuummmm of the great engines 8km away.
