After banging our heads working on a multitude of puzzles by Allyn56 and zzbob's killer Blues series, we thought we'd contribute to the fun. This puzzle should be fairly easy compared with some of theirs. Have fun!

Although Native Americans have been living in Nevada for millennia, Nevada's current history begins when it became part of the United States with the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848. Ten years later the first major discovery of silver in the United States was made at the Comstock Lode under what is now Virginia City. These mines produced more than $500 million worth of silver and gold ore during their operation. Nevada is known as the Silver State because of the Comstock Lode, but after the mines played out Nevada produced more gold than silver.
Statehood came to Nevada in 1864 just 8 days prior to the presidential election. This helped ensure Abraham Lincoln's reelection. Nevada is only one of two states that expanded its borders after statehood. In 1866 it absorbed a portion of the Arizona Territory west of the Colorado River and south of the 37th parallel. This area included all of what is now Clark County and Las Vegas.
Nevada's economy ebbed and flowed with the booms and busts of mining until 1931 when gambling was legalized. Legalized gambling and early mob influences helped the Las Vegas area grow from 5,000 people in 1930 to nearly 2 million in 2010.
Hoover Dam was constructed between 1931 and 1936 and provided thousands of much needed jobs during the Great Depression. The US military has also played a significant roll in Nevada's growth and history. During the 1860s, several skirmishes were fought in Nevada during the Snake War. Of the four "old west" forts that were built in Nevada during the 1800s, Churchill, McDermit, Ruby, and Schellbourne, only Fort McDermit no longer exists in some manner. In more modern times, the world's largest munitions depot (at over 225 square miles) was created near the town of Hawthorne. Las Vegas is home to Nellis Air Force Base with the USAF Fighter Weapons School and the USAF Thunderbirds Air Demonstration Squadron. Fallon, in northwest Nevada is home to Naval Air Station Fallon and Navy TOPGUN program.
There is much to do and much to see throughout our great state, but you need to leave behind the population centers of Las Vegas and Reno to experience it to its fullest.
