Vistas fantásticas (english)
"Vistas fantásticas" means "Great views" and that is, what you will find here.
When I first found this place in spring 2012, I really wondered, that there was no cache. In my opinion, here is one of the most beautiful views all over madeira: In the north you can see the valley of Sao Vicente and the ocean, in the south you look down into a deep cirque with two waterfalls and the Levada do Norte some 200 meters below you.
To reach this beautiful place, you'll need to shoulder some effort, indeed. There are three possibilities:
- 1. From Encumeada (my recommodation)
Park your car at P145GGV. At the other side of the E.R.228 a yellow sign "Folhadal" points to some stairs leading you to the Levada do Norte. Follow the levada path against the direction of flow. After about one kilometer you will reach 1145GGV, the entrance of a levada tunnel (length ~ 500 m). You will have to cross this tunnel. When you are back in daylight, follow the levada path another kilometer to the entry of a second tunnel. Cross this one too (length ~ 850 m) and again follow the levada path for some 500 m more to 1245GGV. Here you leave the levada to the right, walking down a steep path. After ~ 700 m at 1345GGV the path turns left and you will have to climb some 800 stairs, to reach the cache area. The walking distance from the parking place to the cache is ~ 6 km (one direction). If you take this way, don't forget your flashlight!
- 2. From Estanquinhos
Park your car at P245GGV. Go to the barrier at 2145GGV and follow the dirt road at the right down to 2245GGV. There you can find a path in eastern direction. Follow this path. On the way you should visit the cache "Casa do Caramujo" (GC34383). Follow the path furthermore until you meet the dirt road again at 2345GGV. Don't take the dirt road but turn directly to the east. You will find a path beside a dry levada. Follow the path in eastern direction. You have to cross two short tunnels (length ~ 10 and 25 meter) and finally will reach the cache area. The walking distance from the parking place to the cache is ~ 6 km (one direction).
- 3. From Parque Empresarial de São Vicente
Park your car at P245GGV. Follow the dirt road up to 2345GGV. You will find a path beside a dry levada. Follow the path in eastern direction. You have to cross two short tunnels (length ~ 10 and 25 meter) and finally will reach the cache area. The walking distance from the parking place to the cache is ~ 7 km (one direction).

Estacionar o seu carro no P245GGV. Vá para a barreira na 2145GGV e siga a estrada de terra à direita para baixo para 2245GGV. Lá você pode encontrar um caminho no sentido leste. Siga este caminho. No caminho, você deve visitar o cache "Casa do Caramujo" (GC34383). Siga o caminho, além disso, até encontrar a estrada de terra novamente no 2345GGV. "Vistas fantásticas" bedeutet "Großartige Ausblicke" und genau die findet Ihr hier.
Als ich diese Stelle im Frühling 2012 entdeckte, wunderte ich mich, dass hier noch kein Cache lag. Meines Erachtens ist das einer der Plätze mit den schönsten Ausblicken auf ganz Madeira: Im Norden sieht man das Tal von Sao Vicente und das Meer, im Süden blickt man hinab in einen Talkessel mit zwei Wasserfällen und der Levada do Norte gut 200 Meter tiefer.
Um dieses nette Plätzchen zu erreichen, ist allerdings ein bisschen Mühe vonnöten. Es gibt drei Möglichkeiten:
- 1. Von Encumeada (meine Empfehlung)
Parken kannst du bei P145GGV. Auf der anderen Seite der E.R.228 weist ein gelbes Schild zu einigen Treppenstufen, über die Du die Levada do Norte erreichst. Folge dem Levada-Weg entgegen der Fließrichtung. Nach ungefähr einem Kilometer erreichst du 1145GGV, den Eingang zu einem Levada-Tunnel. Diesen musst du durchqueren (Länge ~ 500 m). Wenn du wieder ans Tageslicht kommst, folge der Levada einen weiteren Kilometer zum Eingang eines zweiten Tunnels. Den durchquerst du ebenfalls (Länge ~ 850 m) und folgst dann dem Levadaweg weitere 500 Meter bis zu 1245GGV. Hier verlässt du die Levada nach rechts und gehst über einen steilen Pfad abwärts. Nach ~ 700 m bei 1345GGV wendet sich der Pfad nach links. Du musst nun gut 800 Stufen aufwärts steigen, um die Umgebung des Caches zu erreichen. Die Gehstrecke vom Parkplatz zum Cache beträgt etwa 6 km (ohne Rückweg). Wenn du diesen Weg nimmst, vergiss auf keinen Fall deine Taschenlampe!
- 2. Von Estanquinhos
Parken kannst du bei P245GGV. Geh zu der Schranke bei 2145GGV und folge dem Forstweg rechts abwärts nach 2245GGV. Dort findest du einen Weg, der in östlicher Richtung führt. Folge diesem Weg. Unterwegs empfiehlt sich ein Abstecher zum Cache "Casa do Caramujo" (GC34383). Folge dem Weg weiter, bis du bei 2345GGV wieder auf den Forstweg triffst. Nimm nicht den Forstweg, sondern biege direkt Richtung Osten ab. Du findest einen Pfad neben einer trockenen Levada. Folge diesem Pfad ins östlicher Richtung. Du musst zwei kurze Tunnels durchqueren (Länge ~ 10 and 25 Meter) und erreichst schließlich die Umgebung des Caches. Die Gehstrecke vom Parkplatz zum Cache beträgt etwa 6 km (ohne Rückweg).
- 3. Vom Parque Empresarial de São Vicente
Parken kannst du bei P245GGV. Folge dem Forstweg aufwärts zu 2345GGV. Du findest einen Pfad neben einer trockenen Levada. Folge diesem Pfad ins östlicher Richtung. Du musst zwei kurze Tunnels durchqueren (Länge ~ 10 and 25 Meter) und erreichst schließlich die Umgebung des Caches. Die Gehstrecke vom Parkplatz zum Cache beträgt etwa 7 km (ohne Rückweg).
