Geocache Description:

An historic brick chimeny still standing in the bush on the site of an abandoned timber mill

In 1961 Aub McEvoy, who was working for the Forests Department, built Keenans No 1 Mill and was the first pine sawmill in Margaret River. The mill only operated until 1967 when another larger mill was built further up the hill. That mill, Keenans No 2 mill, is now known as Wharncliffe Mill Forest Camp.
The only remnants of the mill is the round chimney. The bricks were actually curved especially to make the chimney and is one of the last examples of curved chimneys in Western Australia.
It was common for mills in those days to burn off excess saw dust and timber cut offs in large pits but this always posed a great fire risk. The round chimney alleviated those dangers.

You can park at the suggested parking area. There will be about a 1k walk to GZ from here. You may be able to drive closer by going to the old mill shed area to park and walk from there.

Cache is a 1 lt sistema box, with cammo paint. It contains the usual log book, pencil and sharpener (please keep pencil seperate from log book bag to avoid punctures), a nice FTF certificate, an unactivated FTF TB (please activate so i can follow it's travels) and some swaps for the kiddies. Happy caching.

Should be an easy find, please replace as you found to avoid being found muggles accidentaly. Thankyou.
