Sončna ura

Forma viva je slovenski mednarodni kiparski simpozij, ki se je v več slovenskih mestih odvijal vse do konca šestdesetih let. V Mariboru je med letoma 1967 in 1986 potekal kar šestkrat (v letih 1967, 1970, 1973, 1977, 1983 in 1986). Sodelovalo pa je kar 19 kiparjev iz petih evropskih držav, Združenih držav Amerike in Japonske. Vseh 19 skulptur pa pomembno sooblikuje mariborski prostor še danes.

Na ploščadi na Cesti XIV. divizije 20 ti v lepem sončnem vremenu čas prikaže 250 x 700 x 460 centimetrov velika betonska sončna ura, naslovljena S soncem za ta posebni prostor, ki jo je ustvaril ameriški kipar Robert Lee Adzema (1944). Sicer do tedaj še izkušenj v betonu ni imel, na kar je opozoril tudi v prijavi na simpozij. Je pa poudaril svoje bogate izkušnje s sončnimi urami, za katere je bil specialist, mnoge je pa tudi že realiziral. Mesto krasi že od leta 1986, v katerem je potekal zadnji simpozij Forme vive v Mariboru. Vodenje pa sta takrat prevzela Umetnostna galerija Maribor in Zavod za varstvo kulturne dediščine. Adzema je besedo o simpoziju ponesel tudi v ameriško strokovno javnost. V Mariboru pa se je s predavanjem v Razstavnem salonu Rotovž predstavil slovenski javnosti. Sončno uro Adzeme so postavili v majhen park ob upravnih stavbah, deluje kot zaokrožena urbana celota, namenjena središču Krajevne skupnosti Pobrežje.

Skulpturo sestavlja polkrožna betonska ploščad, ki meri 5 metrov, po obodu je pa vgraviran naslov dela v angleščini: »WITH THE SUN, FOR THIS SPECIAL PLACE« (S soncem za ta posebni prostor). Na ploščad je v kotu poševno prislonjen votel polkrožni valj, ki je visok 2,7 metra. V polkrožnem obodu polovičnega valja so perforirane arabske številke obrnjene na glavo, ravno ploskev pa zaznamuje pravokotna odprtina in teksturirana površina. Sončna ura deluje tako, da sonce v kotu posveti skozi pravokotno odprtino, ki nato na betonski plošči zariše uro. Kljub temu da je park bil postavljen in obogaten zelo domiselno ter da velja delo Adzeme za enega izmed viškov mariborske Forme vive, ima ta park danes žal malo obiskovalcev.

Forma viva is a Slovenian international symposium on sculpture, held in several Slovenian cities until the late 1960s. It took place in Maribor on six occasions between 1967 and 1986 (in 1967, 1970, 1973, 1977, 1983 and 1986). However, as many as 19 sculptors from five European countries, the United States and Japan participated. All 19 sculptures, however, significantly shape the Maribor space today.

On the street XIV. divizije 20 in fine sunny weather time displays a 250 x 700 x 460 centimeters large concrete sundial, entitled With the sun for this special space, created by American sculptor Robert Lee Adzema (1944). Otherwise, he had no experience in concrete until then, as he noted in his application for the symposium. However, he emphasized his extensive experience with sundials, for which he was a specialist, and he had already realized many. The city has been adorned since 1986, when the last Symposium of Forma viva was held in Maribor. The management was then taken over by the Maribor Art Gallery and the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage. Adzema also spoke about the symposium to the American professional public. In Maribor he gave a lecture at the Rotovž Exhibition Hall to the Slovenian public. The Adzema sundial was set up in a small park next to the administrative buildings, it acts as a rounded urban unit intended for the center of the Local Community of Pobrežje.

The sculpture consists of a semi-circular concrete platform measuring 5 meters and engraved with the title of the work in English: "WITH THE SUN, FOR THIS SPECIAL PLACE". A hollow semi-circular cylinder, measuring 2.7 meters high, is slanted into the corner of the platform. In the semi-circular half-cylinder circumference, the perforated Arabic numerals are turned upside down, and the flat surface is marked by a rectangular opening and a textured surface. The sundial works by turning the sun into a corner through a rectangular opening, which then draws a clock on the concrete slab. Despite the fact that the park was erected and enriched with great imagination, and that Adzeme's work is considered one of the heights of Maribor's Forma Viva, this park unfortunately has few visitors today.
