Geocache Description:

Saturday, 7 June 2014 at exactly 10:00 am local time

Tens of thousands of geocachers around the world will seemingly appear out of nowhere, all at exactly the same time, for a...

WORLD WIDE FLASH MOB!

A "flash mob" is where a group of people seemingly appears out of nowhere and starts doing something in public.

What's a "world wide flash mob"? It's where hundreds of geocaching flash mob events all around the world are coordinated to happen at exactly the same time. Last year, a whopping 25,125 cachers attended 558 events in 42 countries! Our Victoria WWFM event had 101 attendees, easily making it the most-attended WWFM X event in the province!

The Theme
The theme we decided to go with this year is the same one The Cache-keteers used for WWFM VI in Duncan in 2009: Tacky Tourist! Pull that Hawaiian shirt out of the closet! Wear that horribly tacky hat! Dig that old point-and-shoot camera out of the attic and hang it proudly around your neck!

The Plan
Leading up to the start time, please don't congregate at the posted coordinates. Mill around nearby, enjoy the view, take pictures, and otherwise act as if you're just a run-of-the-mill muggle tourist checking out Clover Point. Hey, you're already dressed like a tourist, so it shouldn't be hard to do!

At exactly 10:00 am on our GPSrs, a whistle will blow and The A-Team and TheG-Force will appear and set up a table at the posted coordinates. A bunch of run-of-the-mill tourists will suddenly transform into geocachers dressed as Tacky Tourists, who will all converge on the posted coordinates for a 15 minute gathering! A change from last year is that you'll sign slips of paper as your log entry with your geocaching name and the number of members who are there. These slips will double as your entry for the chance to win a special WWFM XI geocoin! This should hopefully make the process faster than last year and allow us to have an accurate count of how many individual people attended.

At 10:10 am, we'll take a group photo, followed immediately by the draw for the geocoin.
At 10:15 am, all the gathered geocachers will turn back into run-of-the-mill tourists and disperse. Any nearby muggles will be left wondering what the heck they just witnessed!

Other Info
This event will last only 15 minutes, so make sure you give yourself enough time to get there for the 10 am start time.

Groundspeak has now confirmed that a souvenir will be awarded for attendees to WWFM XI events. Make sure you log your attendance with the correct date (June 7), or the site won't give you the souvenir. Keep in mind that if you're using a mobile app to log your attendance and don't do it on the day of the event, you'll need to later visit the website to edit the date of your log, because your log will have the date of whenever you submit your log.

This event isn't just for geocachers. If you have some muggle friends that you want to introduce to geocaching, you're more than welcome to bring them along! If you do, either get them to sign their own log/raffle slip or add them to the number on yours so they get included in the count of attendees. There'll likely also be some muggles on site that will be wondering what's going on, so we'll have some flyers explaining geocaching that we can hand out to them.

Just to remind you, this event is scheduled for June 7, 2014. That's the 7th day of June in the year 2014. Seventh. June. June the seventh shalt thou attend, and the date of thine attendance shalt be the seventh day of June. Thou shalt not attend in May, nor shalt thou attend in July. August is right out. We had a couple of people show up a month early last year (you know who you are!), so I just wanted to make it clear when this event will be held.

Let's have fun and make this an even bigger event than last year!
